The little things they do make you laugh...

It is so much fun watching Caleb learn new things everyday. Everyday he finds something new to experience. Something we see as "not a big deal" - but it is new to Caleb.

Last night, Caleb discovered his goober (as we call it). Caleb was sitting in the living room floor, and he pulled out a clean diaper from his diaper bag. He opened it up and sat on it. He was running around the house in just a diaper - no clothes. Once he sat on the clean one, he started tugging at the one he had on. So, I just sat back and watched, letting him "figure it out" - or at least attempt to anyways. :o)

After sitting down and and messing with it for a while, he finally got his diaper pulled down a little bit. Enough to where you could see his but-crack just a bit in the back. Well, in the process of pulling his diaper - he spotted his goober. So he reaches in his diaper with one hand and with the other pulls the front of the diaper down just far enough to where he put his goober on the top of his diaper. He stood there for a minute - just looking at it. Then, out of nowhere, he takes off running - and then laughing as he was running. I guess feeling the breeze against his G was funny. I never laughed so hard!

So, the terrible 2's can be not so terrible at times :o)

Cleaning..

Another busy weekend - but then again - what weekend isn't busy? Friday morning Sam got up and had to take his patrol car to the shop for new tires. He also stopped by the hotels that LFPD patrols for to get our hotel discount for our mini-vacation next week. Once he got home we headed into town and met Loretta at her house. Loretta (mother in law) was told this morning that she was no longer needed at her job. She was quite upset - but I totally understand. So we spent the afternoon with her. Sam fell asleep on the couch (not much sleep) - I tried to get Caleb to take a nap, but it wasn't about to happen. Knowing that I had a busy Saturday ahead in cleaning her house, I decided to get started on it early! I cleaned out her cabinets and re-arranged them...neatly.

Loretta is having a total knee replacement done Friday, August 24th. So that is why I am cleaning her house.

Loretta, Caleb and I left the house. She needed to get some comfortable sleepwear (shorts and shirts) and we also had to go to WM to get her stocked up on groceries! Sam worked the hotels Friday night, so that is why he didn't go with us :o)

We left the house and I took her down to Catherine's in Fayetteville to get her sleepwear. Man, even when that place has a sale - it is still EXPENSIVE!!! Even with them being 30% off - they were still $27.99 each!!! That is just insane. It is no wonder fat people are broke all the time - having to spend so much money on a simple outfit will break anyone! Anyways...

From there we went to WM on Pleasant Grove. Loretta climbed into one of those motorized carts and Caleb and I pushed a cart for the groceries. 2 1/2 hours later we finally left wal-mart. She ended up spending $246 on stuff she needed - groceries, and just things she was out of - or needed for the surgery. i thought her eyes were going to fall out of her head :o)

On the way back to her house we stopped at Maria's and got our food to go. We got back to her house, unloaded the groceries. And we sat down to eat our supper. Once Loretta and I finished eating - we cleaned out the fridge. Wow - that was an undertaking in itself! I cleaned it with clorox - if it was removable from the fridge - it was removed and cleaned thoroughly! Once that was done and the groceries were put up it was 10:30. So Caleb and I headed home.

Sam got home around 3:30am. He slept until 11. We left and headed back to Loretta's. Sam cleaned her carpets. I cleaned out the rest of her cabinets - threw away 4 big trashbags full of stuff - 99% of it had been expired for years! I unloaded the dishwasher - and I ended up washing over half of them by hand again - along with the rest of the dishes that were dirty. I cleaned the counters, stove, microwave. Sam fixed supper (greasy taco's..mmmm...good) and I fixed brownies for dessert. That was delicious!

I cleaned the kitchen...again. then I swept and mopped the floors - bleach again. Her floors haven't looked that good in a long time!

Candi brought Jadyn over around 730. Caleb and Jadyn played long and hard together. 90 to nothing the whole time. I fixed them some mac and cheese - they ate just about every bit of it!

We headed home finally around 930. I was pooped. Sam was pooped. Caleb was pooped! I gave Caleb a bath and put him to bed. Then I went and took a nice, long, hot bath myself. It felt great! After that - I crashed. I don't even remember my head hitting the pillow! Only bad thing - I forgot to set the alarm in order to get up for church....and we all slept until 915. Oops. Totally meant to be at church!

We got up and got dressed and we headed down to Pa's for lunch. We just had sandwich stuff. And that was perfectly fine with me. Less to clean up! We left Pa's and we went to the Fayetteville mall for a while. Just walked around a bit. We left there and went to Best Buy in Rogers. Sam started looking at Carpet Cleaners. We wanted to check out some prices. So we went to Kohl's and looked at theirs. They had one on sale - but the bottom did not have any type of a "scrubbing" action to it. So we walked down to Linens 'n Things. They had one there to -but the container that held the water and soap was not very secure.

About that time - Gary and Betty Isenhower called and said they were in town and wanted to see us and Caleb. So we left and went over to their hotel room and we visited for quite a while. It was really good to see them again. I pray God will lead them to a church that will love them and take care of them. They are struggling so much right now. I can't imagine being Gary's age - and working at WM for a mere 8.60 an hour. They deserve so much more than that. I know that God always has a reason for each obstacle we are faced with. Sometimes knowing what to learn from it is the hardest part, I guess.

We had a great visit with them. I miss having them around. :o)

After we all ate at Fudruckers, Caleb, Sam and I headed to WM - looking at carpet cleaners...this time we actually bought one. They had the same one we saw at Kohl's for 169 and at Best Buy for 199 - for only 139. So we bought it. Then we came home. I put Caleb to bed. Sam put the carpet cleaner together. I cleaned the kitchen. Then Sam cleaned the carpets. We finished up at about 1130. Then as the carpets dried- Sam and I played Phase 10. he beat me...this time. There will be another :o)

I think that is about all that is going on for now.

More later :o)

Friday, 8/10 - Sunday, 8/12

I did not have the computer this past weekend, so I am playing catch up on my blogs for the weekend. :)

Friday was one of my good friends birthday. She is 5 yrs older than me. She and I have been friends since I was in the 2nd grade. One of my longest friendships. Misty and I met when my dad was called to pastor First Baptist Church of Forrest City, Arkansas. She lived across the street from our house. We became fast friends. Over the years we have lost touch with each other, mainly due to each of us moving around. But, this past January, I found her on the internet. The internet can be good for some things :) Since then we have kept in touch with each other. She has 3 children now. 2 girls and a little boy. I was able to take off and meet her in Little Rock a few months ago. Her mom was with her. We had a good time visiting and getting to see each other again. She will always have a special place in my heart.

Saturday was pretty laid back. We didn't do a whole lot. But he did start showing more interest in potty training. We went to the potty a lot today. And he actually made it to the potty twice before he went. So that was exciting. He is getting to where he is embarassed about wearing a diaper and just refuses to put a new one on. Sam and I are thinking about buying him some big boy underwear to see how he does with those. Saturday evening, I took Caleb for a walk. We walked 1.2 miles. It was hot. I waited until 8pm - when the sun was going down, and even though our street is extremely shaded, it was still quite hot. But, Caleb enjoyed it. He loves to be outdoors. He just sits back and looks and observes every little thing he can. I love it.

Sunday morning Caleb and I went to church. Sam is not able to go on the weekends he works. Today was promotion day for Sunday School. Caleb was promoted to the 2yr olds class room. Joey and Tracey Griffith and the Saunders teach this class. He brought home his first bag of "lessons" from Sunday School. It was so neat. I am glad that he will actually be learning more instead of just playing during church. So, since he is now in a Sunday School class, that means I will actually be getting up and getting us there in time for Sunday School. I know that I should have been doing this all along, but for what ever reason, I/We have not been. So that will be changing :o)

Sunday afternoon we all took naps. Well needed naps, too. Sunday evening I had nursery duty. I was in the infants room with Darla Grimm. It was good getting to know her better. Then after church, I met up with Loretta at Maria's in bentonville for supper. Man, I could eat there every day if I could! :o) Not much else happened that evening. Caleb and I came home after supper. I gave Caleb a bath - b/c he always gives himself a bath in salsa at Maria's :o) Then we both went to bed.

What a fun weekend, huh?

Trials...

I have always been amazed at how little things about our personalities are reflections of our parents. This past Friday, I receive an email from my mother-in-law telling me everything that Sam and I have done wrong in the passed year. She went so far as to calling her son an "ungrateful, egotistical, spoiled brat". Wow. What would cause a mother to speak so insulting of their own son? This was caused just simply because he did not take off work to drive to Ft. Smith for her knee surgery. I can see both sides of this. So, here I am, stuck in the middle...once again. She thinks he doesn't care b/c he didn't take off. His job (police officer) doesn't allow him the flexibility to take off whenever he wants. His job requires that he find a replacement for his shift. That is not so easy to do when you work in a small city. I get stuck in the middle. Obviously, I stand behind my husband. She says I should "stand up to him" and tell him what he should be doing (which of course is what she wants, not what is right for the situation).

So here I am, once again. Dealing with a woman, who is just scared, nervous and worried about the unknown and the known of surgery, who decides it is easier to take it out on loved ones in an extremely hateful manner, instead of just saying to her son - "I'm worried. I'm nervous. I'm scared".

So this brings me back to my first statement. This little "act" that my mother-in-law pulled on Friday - it is the same little "act" that my dear husband pulls when a big change is about to take place, or is taking place. Neither one of them will admit when something is bothering them. Neither one of them will say any of those 3 little phrases and actually talk about what is on their minds until after they have pushed people away. I figured all this out this past year. (Yes, it took me 9 yrs to figure this out about my husband and Mother-in-law) Sam started working full time as a police officer this past January. 2 weeks before he started, he starts getting irritable, ugly, hateful, etc. Finally, after putting up with it for a few days, I explode. Come to find out - he is nervous about quitting his job he has been at for 5 yrs. He is worried and nervous about the new job. Even though, it was just the "unknown" and the nerves of starting a new job. Everything is going along fine. March rolls around. It is 2 weeks before he starts the police academy. A few days of the ugliness, I explode. Same story as before. He is worried about starting the academy. So - here it is...2 weeks before mother-in-law's knee surgery, and she does the exact same thing!!!! Both Sam and his sister sull up, get mad, and the "I don't want to talk to her". So, here I am, left to analyze the situation (which I will admit that I was quite upset myself over the things she said and the things of the past that are continuously brought up over and over and over. That's another story though).

After I reply with what the true problem is, all is well. For now anyways.

Thoughts...

God has always been good to us. Even when we didn't have a clue where he was taking us, we followed Him and He has always taken care of us. With that said, this past April, I lost my job at Alco. Business was bad and they had to let some people go...that meant the one on the bottom of the totum pole had to go. That meant me. The Lord knew what he was doing. We didn't have a clue. But that was okay. Since the end of April, I have been at home with Caleb. I love being at home with him. I have really enjoyed getting to watch him and spend time with him. However, we can not survive on Sam's salary alone. Unemployment has been our life saver. I never thought I would be on unemployment. God knows when it is time to humble your spirit :o)

Anyways.

The jobs in the vendor world are slim pickens. There is a very big part of me that would like to do something completely different. Completely away from WM.

So, here are the options I have: a) our music minister is looking for a new assistant. He is suppose to call me to discuss further. b) go to school and become a nurse.

Option A is something I could start immediately. Option B would give me a lifetime of jobs - anywhere. I would have a degree. Down side to this one would be - school. Paying for school. Attending school. It has been 9 yrs since I have been to school. I think I would like it. Sam says to go for it. But I am a little scared.

I guess if I am not offered the job at the church, I will persue the degree for nursing.

Nervous.
Don't know what to do.
Don't know if I can do it.
Can I go to school, and be a mom and a wife?? Will they suffer any by me going to school?

So many questions, not enough answers.

Busy and Long Weekend

What a weekend! We celebrated Caleb's 2nd birthday this past weekend. Mom and dad drove in from Kentucky last Thursday. They didn't get in until around 8. I got home from WM about 10 minutes before they got to the house. I had to get some groceries - cause I was all out :o) We fixed bacon and mater sandwiches for supper. MMMMMMMMhMMMM are they ever so good!

Daniel flew in from Charlotte, SC on Friday. (He loves the benefits of working at the airline). After we picked him up from the airport, we went to Maria's and ate lunch. I could eat there every day if I could! Then we went to Hobby Lobby. Mom and Dad are getting Sam's Police Academy class picture and his diploma matted and framed for him. That is his graduation present from them. It shoul be ready on August 14th. I am excited to get it. I bought a few "fern" plants to put in the top shelf of my fireplace. Give it some "life". It looks really good. Sam, Dad and Daniel took off to Best Buy (sam wanted to buy the movie 300) and then they went home. Sam and Daniel were working off of very little sleep at this point. Mom, Caleb and I did some more shopping. Got more stuff for the birthday party. Then we took Caleb home - it was way past his nap time :o) Once I got him to sleep, Mom and I headed off to WM again. I swear, that place gets 1/2 of my paycheck!!! It seems like I am there every other day, if not every day! Anyways. We got back home and we got to fixing supper. Mom and Dad brought more veggies from their garden...yummmmm. We had corn on the cob, cornbread, purple-huled peas, grean beans, potatoes, fresh sliced maters. Man - that stuff is GOOOOOOD! We finished off the night by watching 300. That is an awesome movie!

Saturday was the birthday party at 2. Sam and I went to get Caleb's cake at 11. Beautiful. Amazing. Once I get the pics developed I will post some on here. We had a house full and lots of fun. I ordered a cake from Rick's Bakery in Fayetteville. The party's theme was Elmo. So I had them make an Elmo cake. OH MY GOODNESS! I was absolutely amazed over this cake! It was PERFECT. (picture will go here later).

Caleb is a very loved little boy. Briley, Christy, Ronnie, Hallie, Jason, Heather, Jadyn, Justin, Candi, Kara, Gale, Grammy, NeNe, Big Daddy, and Uncle NoNo were all here. He got lots of clothes (mom is always more excited about the clothes than the kids are...hehe) and quite a few toys as well. Briley got him a big 'ole dump truck. It is big enough for him to sit in - and he does...and then expects me to push him around in it :o) But it is fun. Hallie got him some really cute clothes from Old Navy - and some of the COOLEST shoes ever!! Mom can't wait until he can wear them :o) Jadyn got him a night-time bear. It lights up and changes colors. He has slept with it every night so far. Kara and Gale got him some clothes. John Deere clothes to be exact. Grammy got him some movies (veggie tales, tom & jerry movies), some clothes and a Sand & Water Table. It is pretty neat. We are going to break it out tonight and let him play in it...outside on the deck of course :o) NeNe and Big Daddy got him some clothes (bought his easter outfit for next year - it is adorable) and a tricycle! He loves the tricycle!! He can't quite reach the peddles yet, but it won't be long and our house is going to be a race track! What fun to look forward too! Sam and I got him a sit 'n spin (Diego is on it -one if his favorites right now) and a guitar. It is small enough for him to hold. Where you would "strum" there is an opening that has sensors so when you stick your hand in there it starts to play music. He is so funny with it. He just walks around the house carrying it, occasionally playing and dancing around. It is too cute.

Saturday evening we went to the Promenade Mall and then to Rack Room Shoes (mom and dad needed new tennis shoes). Then we came back home and fixed mater sandwiches again. You just can't go wrong with a tomato sandwich. Then we broke out the Dominoes for a little Mexican Train. we always have fun playing that game. And it is one that doesn't get old - b/c every game is different and you never know who is going to win! We finally went to bed around 1:30.

Sunday morning dad got up to take Daniel back to the airport. He got there in time to find out that he was not going to be able to get on the first flight out of xna, but they secured him a seat on the next flight leaving at 6pm. So on their way back to the house, they stopped at Krispy Kreme and got some doughnuts. I haven't had those in a long time!! They were good!! We all got dressed and headed to church. Sunday was Dr. Tom and Peggy Hatley's 15th anniversary at Immanuel Baptist. So the day was planned around thanking them for their time and service. The church gave them a vacation to Hawaii. Peggy's dream vacation ever since her and Tom were married. It was sweet.

After church we went to Chili's to eat. Bro Joe Atchison met us there. He is so sweet. After lunch, we headed back to the house. Mom and dad needed to get on the road. They were going to Danville for Sunday night services and to visit friends from Danville. Sam and I took Daniel back to the airport. His flight was delayed, but they finally left at 7pm. After that - Sam, caleb and I CRASHED. We were so tired. But we had a blast!!

My baby is 2!!

Today is a special day. My baby boy is 2 years old today. I am just in awe of him. He is learning so much on a daily basis. New words. New actions. Each of them reminding me of how much and how closely he watches everything we do. It is also a simple reminder of how God watches over us. There are so many times you don't think he sees you (he = baby boy) - and yet he does. Just like God sees everything and carefully watches over us, even when we don't think He is there.

God has truly blessed Sam and I with a precious baby - who is now a toddler!

Sometimes I just sit back and watch him as he is playing with his blocks or "reading" his books. It is just amazing. He is seeing everything for the first time. Figuring out how the blocks go together for the first time. Seeing how far he can "push" mom before he really gets in trouble. Riding a bike for the first time. So many firsts. I wish there was a way to capture each one.

More later on. Time to give baby boy a bath!
